How Does Technology Impact HR Practices?

As a result of technological improvements, human resource departments are rethinking how they connect with employees, upload documents, and measure employee performance. When used correctly, technology can help improve the efficiency of human resource processes. It can block a company's human resource management if applied incorrectly (Ichniowski, 2009).

HR best practices maximize the benefits while minimizing the risks.

Recruiting Transformed by the Internet

Communication with job seekers before the internet and email needed a phone call, an in-person interview, or a letter. In the twenty-first century, companies frequently list job openings online and require applicants to apply through an online application tracking system. This saves HR a significant amount of time that would otherwise be spent on paper applicants or phone calls.

Ease of Communication

HR employees can communicate with the rest of the organization more easily than ever before thanks to email, texting, and messaging apps. One email with an attachment or a chat conversation can reach a thousand people at once if a manager wants to communicate a fresh schedule to a project team. However, there is a danger of relying too heavily on technology to save time. A two-page email may be more effective than giving information to the group in person. Anyone can ask questions and receive responses in this fashion.

Data Analysis of Employee Performance

Employee performance evaluations have traditionally depended on subjective judgments and identity standards. Was the person on time when it came to finishing the work? Is their boss aware of their abilities?

Technology facilitates the collection and analysis of data on personnel to provide a holistic picture. Which tasks are the most adept at? Are they meeting all of the objectives set out in last year's performance appraisal? If they fell short, was it by 12%, 50%, or 75%? Software tools can even perform a significant portion of the labor associated with employee evaluations.

Conclusion

In the case of human resource management, technology can assist in implementing the business strategy to drive the organization toward quality and acquire a competitive edge in the market (Schumann, 2011). Numerous studies have discovered that implementing human resource information technology systems can aid in the moderate and efficient achievement of human resource goals, objectives, and policies. Their application, especially in an organization's human resources department to accomplish established key performance indicators, has the potential to increase company efficiency. The key to success is an awareness of the information system's significance and the organization's objectives.
